FAQs

Q?

Where do I go to join The Agility Dog Club Of NSW?

A.

You join at the same place where we have training, which is at the Castle Hill Showground (Dog Rings) Sydney NSW, on a Thursday night around 7.00 pm. Entry via the traffic lights on Showground Rd.

Q?

What does Agility cost?

A.

Please refer to the Join Us page where all fees are listed.

Q?

How old must my dog be before I can start agility?

A.

Your dog must be older than 9 months, but not too old to be in pain or get hurt. This can be assessed by an instructor. If your dog is younger than 9 months old click here.

Q?

I don’t know about agility & would like to start, what can I do?

A.

You can come and visit us at training on any Thursday night, see what its all about and talk to our members at the counter. Introductions for New Members are held on the 1st  Thursday of the month (check the home page of this site to see if it is on). Also read through this page of FAQ’s as these should tell you most of what you need to know to join us or visit us. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us.

Q?

What if my bitch is in season?

A.

We don’t allow a bitch in season to attend training.

Q?

Vaccination of members’ dogs

A.

As Castle Hill Showground is a leash-free area, unvaccinated dogs can be on the grounds at any time, so we cannot insist that members’ dogs should be vaccinated. We do, however, recommend that members vaccinate their dogs for their own protection. We do require your dog to be fit, healthy and not overweight.

Q?

Can my son or daughter do training?

A.

Yes they can. There are family discounts (see above) – click here for a Membership Form. We require all children under the age of 16 (training or not) to be accompanied by an adult at all times. A child must also be over the age of 10 years and demonstrate that they have good control of their dog before they can train.

Q?

How long has the club been running?

A.

The Agility Dog Club Of NSW has been running since 1989.

Q?

Should I bring food to help train my dog?

A.

Yes, motivational tools for your dog are encouraged including dog food treats. Do not feed your dog its evening meal before training and remember to also bring a bowl for water.

Q?

Is my dog too big or too small for agility?

A.

We encourage all types of dogs to do agility: big, tiny, mixed breed etc. are all welcome.

Q?

Can I take more than 1 dog?

A.

Yes you can, you can split up your training time by taking one dog at a time.

Q?

What do I have to do to get my dogs photo on this website?

A.

Members can email the Webmaster to provide photos, articles or suggestions about the website.

Q?

Is there any special clothing I need to bring?

A.

You can wear what you like, although we prefer joggers or non-slip foot ware to avoid slipping on the grass (we recommend Touch football shoes). Big open jackets etc. that can get caught on agility equipment should not be worn while training.

Q?

Does my dog need to be obedience trained?

A.

No, your dog does not need to be obedience trained, although you will need to be able to have control of your dog. Having your dog ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘come’ will give you a head start. Training for New Members is ‘on lead’.

Q?

Do I need to have a dog lead?

A.

Yes you do, we require dogs to be on lead at all times during training unless supervised by an instructor. We also forbid choke, check, slip or pinch chains/collars.
