Training
Thursday night at Castle Hill Showground Dog Rings. Please be at the ground 30 minutes prior to the start time to assist in setting up equipment so that training may commence on time.
| • Intro / Beginners: | 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm |
| • Green / Yellow: | 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm |
| • Blue / Red: | 8.00 pm to 9.30 pm |
All our training is based on positive reinforcement methods and our Instructors are happy to guide you in using these methods. You will have much more success and a happier and more willing dog if you follow their advice.
It is essential to practice at home in order to progress through the classes. You don’t need a big backyard, just enough space for one or two jumps and some weave poles. Ask your Instructor for advice on this basic equipment and flatwork exercises. Your dog will love you for this quality time spent with him/her.
Training Multiple Dogs in Thursday Night Classes
There has been some discussion amongst both Club Members and also at Committee Level about the practice of handlers training two and sometimes three dogs in Class Rotations at Training and as a result it has been decided that handlers may only train one dog per rotation of a Thursday night. This means that handlers with two or more dogs will have to select which dog needs to be trained on a particular skill rotation and leave the other dog/dogs for a subsequent rotation. As all skills are practised for a month before a new exercise is introduced this will give handlers with multiple dogs three weeks in which to organise their dogs’ training regimes to best suit them. It is still possible for handlers to train each of their dogs for some time during the class but they will need to change dogs for the different skill sets.
It is felt by Committee that this is fairer for all concerned as all members pay just one fee for training (no matter how many dogs they are training) and are therefore entitled to the same amount of time using the equipment. Our turns in Class will be “People” Turns and not “Dog Turns”. If during the time spent on a particular exercise or skill set there is enough time for people to have a second run on the course then the handler of multiple dogs may elect to change to another dog for the second run through but may not run two or more dogs in the initial run through.
It will help in the smooth running of classes at Red and Blue Level if handlers are prepared and ready for their turn and know where their position in the order of runs is. Your assistance in helping with this new concept would be very much appreciated.
